Day 1

After checking in to your luxury ryokan near Tokyo Station, you will enjoy a traditional Japanese lunch of soba noodles at a nearby restaurant followed by a stroll through the Imperial Palace Gardens. Visit one of the preeminent collections of Japanese and Asian premodern art at the Nezu Musuem before stopping for a coffee or matcha latte at the museum’s café overlooking the secret garden. After freshening up at your hotel you will savour an authentic kaiseki dinner at a nearby establishment.

Day 2

Spend the morning exploring one of Tokyo's quaint original neighbourhoods, now bustling with creativity. Shop for local artisanal goods and dine at one of the many exceptional restaurants that we recommend in the area. After lunch, you will make your way to the stunning Ueno Park and explore the wonders of the Tokyo National Museum. Perhaps try your hand at glass blowing or hand decorating a traditional Edo period wind chime. End the day with a meal of yakitori, a local specialty – and perhaps a whiskey at one of The Japan Concierge’s favourite haunts.

Day 3

A more modern twist to today’s itinerary. Hop on the yellow Ghibli shuttle bus from Mitaka station to the Ghibli Museum. Once there, immerse yourself in all things Ghibli. Then enjoy lunch at Straw Hat Café before taking a paddle around Inokashira Pond in a Swan boat. Stock up on Ghibli merchandise before making your way back to your ryokan. Tonight, you will enjoy dinner at a stunning local izakaya.

Day 4

Embrace Kamakura's timeless charm on a day trip. Begin with a traditional lunch of handmade udon noodles at a local eatery. Visit historic temples, including the iconic Great Buddha at Kotoku-in. Stroll through serene gardens, before heading back to Tokyo for dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Day 5

Get your feet wet at the spectacular teamLab Planets in Toyosu, then wander over to Sushi Dai at the new fish markets for a meal of the freshest sushi in Tokyo. Board a water bus to Asakusa and visit the must-see Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Shopping Street. Watch the sun set over Tokyo from Sky Tree, Tokyo’s tallest structure and end the day with a delicious tempura dinner.

Day 6

Come prepared with an appetite as you snack your way through the alleys of the Tsukiji Outer Market before learning from the experts in a hands-on sushi-making class and lunch. Spend the evening in Ginza, watching Kabuki at the famous Kabukiza Theatre followed by a seafood teppanyaki dinner.

Day 7 - Departure day

Spend your last day in Tokyo in Ginza, visiting the plethora of department stores and their amazing basement food halls (or depachika as the locals know them). Be sure to stock up on last-minute purchases and souvenirs at the legendary Ginza Itoya before enjoying a delicious serving of ramen at a Michelin-starred ramen joint. Reluctantly check out of your hotel and depart for the airport, already planning for your return to Japan.
